Using GIS and 2D models to automate Flood Studies

A bold project was initiated by the Principal in 2008 whilst working as the Senior Design Engineer at Shellharbour City Council. The broad aim:- to undertake a 2D analysis of the entire City (25 Catchments) using the GIS and High Resolution Airborne Laser Survey (ALS) also known as LIDAR. The final project was undertaken by Hydro-Oz.

The 25 catchments were split into 8 groups. The total area of analysis covering around 300 square kilometers.

A conference paper was presented at the 11th International Conference on Urban Drainage (ICUD) in Scotland in 2008. The paper covered initial results of the project. The paper can be found here:- 11icud
