Hydraulics: SuperCritical Diversions

As Part of the Sydney Water Stormwater Environment Improvement Program (SEIP) a proposal for a Large GPT on an open channel was put forward. However it soon appeared that this project could not proceed on the basis that the chanel flow regime was SuperCritical and diverting this flow would result in flooding. Balance RnD were engaged to investigate this and provide a solution. The result was a hybrid structure based loosely on minimum energy type concepts, where the Froude number was maintained as the shape of the flow was transitioned.
